Description
Grown in the Highlands for its decorative properties, this fir is dome headed and reaches a height of some 80 metres. Its needles are short and blue green in colour.
Extraction
The oil is extracted from the needles of branches during pruning or the grubbing out of misshapen trees.
Chemical Composition
The composition of the oil originating from a Highland grown tree, is typically:
- Limonene 68.6% This may also include beta phellandrene
- beta pinene 11.3%
- alpha pinene 9.8%
- beta myrcene 2.2%
The level of limonene is the highest of the Highland oils that HNP offers which gives it an orangey aroma.
Uses
In North America where the species originates, the bark is traditionally used for medicinal purposes.
Blending
There appears to be little information on the blending properties of the oil with other oils.
